Notes: I actually wrote this and posted it up on my LJ a few hours before I heard about this place, so I thought I may as well dive right in and post the first anime review for the comm. I hope nobody minds that it's not an especially formal review; I have to write academically most of the time for my University material, so I usually prefer a looser style when it comes to things like this.
There aren't any spoilers here, although there is very basic information about the plot and characters (nothing you don't find out by the end of the first episode). This review is not any reflection on the manga whatsoever - I haven't read the manga and have no idea how it compares to the anime. Finally, everything in this review is just my opinion, so please feel free to agree or disagree as you like. We all have different tastes, and I think that's a good thing.( Review under the cut.Collapse )
Everyone else (lawl, like two people) is doing one of these, so I will too.
So, I'm a 20-something year old currently living in Houston (Canadian, though, all the way through)and going to school full-time. I like anime(duh), manga(duh), video games (mostly Playstation), swimming, THE OLYMPICS OMG, my car, baking, THE SIMS 2, and long list of other things I won't bore you with.
I'm more into manga than anime, but I like the latter too. Anime I've seen and remember/still like: Drunker than Hobo (Darker than Black), Revolutionary Girl Utena, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei, Code Geass, Evangelion, and others I either don't remember enough about to mention (chobits) or don't find worth mentioning (Digimon, Inuyasha). Manga I'm currently reading: Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist, Soul Eater, Tsubasa (as it's released by DelRay - NO SPOILERS D=), xxxHolic (same) , Gentlemen's Alliance, and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. There's one, I know there's one more, but I can't remember at all, and it's driving me nuts. Oh, well, you're not reading this anyways, right (OH,OH, THE ONE I COULDN'T REMEMBER WAS X/1999)? I've also read Fruits Basket, RGVeda, Cardcaptors, Full Moon o I-can-never-remember-but-it-starts-with-an-S, and some other here and there.
I'm kind of excited for this comm - one of the things that was disappointed about when I first joined LJ was the lack of actually conversation, outside of ZOMG CLOUD/JACOB/OTHERCHARACTER HERE'S MY FIC, ICONZ, AND MOAR.
(Holy shit, that was long xD)
I was thinking of suggesting to watch Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle with my boyfriend sometime. I have read quite a lot of the manga (of which I loved) and was interested in watching the anime. I read that the anime is paced slowly and isn't very good but I still want to give it a try.
If any of you have watched it, what do you think of the anime? Is it worth watching?
My boyfriend and I plan to watch Howl's Moving Castle today. I am quite excited to begin watching it since I have always enjoyed watching Miyazaki films. I read the Howl's Moving Castle book when I was a little girl. Later, I read via the Internet that many people did not enjoy the movie compared to the book (but isn't that how movies of books always turn out? Hah). Back on topic, if you have watched any Miyazaki films which ones did you enjoy the most and which one did you like the least?
I would have to say I enjoyed Princess Mononoke the most (ugh, who doesn't? Hah) and I remember that I was not as interested while watching Whispers of the Heart.
What do you think?
I would like for you to name me a comedy anime/manga that does not involve some sort of situation where the male is caught doing something like looking at panties, feeling up a girl, looking at little girls, looking at pornography, or something or other in which the girl character will shout, "Pervert!" and the male character will either bleed out of his nose, fall down, or some other such nonsense. Ok, I don't really want you to start naming stuff. But you know what I mean.( ...Collapse )(P.S. I <3 you, Iesha)
Hi there! *waves* Just joined up to this community this morning, and I figured I'd better introduce myself.
Online I go by the name Artemis. I'm 22, going on 23, and am a full-time Uni student - right now I'm half-way through writing a PhD on the topic of anime & sexuality. I model part-time, mostly just for fun. When I'm not writing/working or watching anime, I enjoy swimming, reading fantasy & historical fiction novels, and hobby-researching lots of different aspects of Japanese pop culture (but especially street fashion).
Favourite anime include Evangelion, Azumanga Daioh, X/1999, Cowboy Bebop, Eureka 7, Wolf's Rain, Kyou Kara Maou, Read or Die, Cardcaptor Sakura, Ouran High School Host Club, and a handful of Miyazaki films. (And even though it's not technically anime, I'm also a big fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender.) I'm also a big shounen-ai/yaoi fan.
Nice to meet you all, and I look forward to having lots of awesome discussions! :)
This seems like a good idea for a community so I had to join.
I go by Myth mostly. I'm a 19-year-old college students who loves writing and reading. I write fanfics as well as poetry and original works, but my focus is on fanfiction now.
Animanga: I'm a huge fan of Yu-gi-oh, that's my biggest animanga. I also like Death Note, Yu Yu Hakushu, Tokyo Mew Mew, Ouran High School Host Club, and Sailor Moon. But these are well known, less known are Flame of Recca and Kamichama Karin.
I'm a gamer as well and am a Nintendo fan. My most favorite game series is Legend of Zelda. I also like Vocaloid and a lot of people on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com.
I've been reading a manga series called Gravitation. Has anyone heard of it? I know I always end up being late to the party on popular series. But anyway, the characters are interesting. I just wish the main character didn't act like such a girl sometimes.
There was another series I read awhile ago, Buso Renkin, from the creator of Rurouni Kenshin, a series I didn't really get into. I really liked Buso Renkin's characters, though I wish there was more emphasis on their past and how they are. The ending was kind of all over the place and Papilion. Oh boy. That guy. The...strange anti-hero of the series.
I hope to have lots of happy discussions here.
Hello! I'm Justin, I hail from the exciting state of Nebraska.
Currently 18 years old, but I'll be 19 in a couple weeks.
I'm a freshman at Peru State College, which no, is not in the country Peru, but the small town in Nebraska named Peru.
I'm into anime, video games, manga, and reading in general, and spend a lot of time when not in class with my girlfriend watching anime.
I always have trouble with picking favorites of things, but some of my favorite animes are Cowboy Bebop, Gurren Lagann, Trigun, Death Note, Elfen Lied, Hellsing Ultimate, Eureka 7, and a bunch more I can't think of now. Oh, then I've got my guilty pleasures of Sailor Moon and Ouran Host Club.
Manga-wise, I read D. Gray-Man, Black Cat, Hellsing, Trigun/Trigun Maximum, Pokemon Special, and then some more.
Video games, I love tons, and its way too hard to pick favorites, since I've been playing games since I was little, and I own a PS2, PS3, PSP, Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, DS, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Wii, and a Dreamcast, and have an amount of games for each, so you can imagine why it'd be hard to pick favorites. I tend to like RPG games the most though.
Just yesterday I started watching Soul Eater with my girlfriend, but we're only 4 episodes in, so I can't really say a lot, but I've enjoyed what I've seen. Though I know I don't care for Black Star, since he's basically Naruto, and I don't really like that show.
Hopefully the next time I post I'll be able to make one better for actual discussion.
So yeah, hope this community takes off!
For everyone that has joined the community thus far feel free to introduce yourselves or talk about any anime you have been watching or manga you have been reading recently.
Don't be shy now. :)
Today, my boyfriend and I finished watching Code Geass R2. I thought I might talk a bit about it to you and engage you in some conversation.( Code Geass R2 SpoilersCollapse )
What did you all think of Code Geass R2?
Also, my boyfriend and I have just watched the first episode of RahXephon. It seems a bit strange but I think that I could possibly enjoy it. I asked in my previous post if anyone has ever watched it and what you thought of it. The questions still stands if you would like to tell me what you thought of it.
That's about it,
Hey all, I'm quite excited to get this community going and to see how everything turns out. Just to let you know, I am the moderator of this community. I thought I might start off by introducing myself.
My name is Iesha and I'm 18. I live in San Antonio, Texas with my boyfriend and we are both massive nerds who pretty much spend all of our time watching anime and playing video games. I have a huge obsession with Gundams and enjoy collecting/building models. I also enjoy writing and drawing as well. I tend to lean more towards mecha anime but I'm open minded and enjoy various genres of anime. I started this community in hopes of finding others who would enjoy discussing anime and manga.
Currently, I am on episode 20 of Code Geass R2 of which I am now beginning to enjoy (although, I do not like it as much as the first season). I thought I might post about the series once I finish watching it and we could all have a discussion about it. After all, that is the point of this community, heh.
After watching Code Geass R2 my boyfriend and I plan to start watching RahXephon. If any of you have watched it, what do you think about it? (No spoiling please).
I guess that's about it. I hope everyone enjoys this community.
